The Franciscan Monastery of the Holy Land: Community Portraits Digital Collection is a cultural heritage initiative showcasing a selection of Franciscan community photographs circa the early 19th century from the Library and Archives of the Franciscan Monastery in Washington, D.C. The Franciscan Monastery is not only significant as a religious center and landmark, but also as a cultural and historical one as well.  Obviously a part of Franciscan history, the Monastery also has a place in the history of Washington, D.C. and on a local level, of Brookland, this particular area in the nation’s capital.

 

We provide further details about the Monastery, this particular Collection and the digitization project, as well as helpful links for futher research.  


We hope you enjoy this unique assortment of historical photographs.  Due to the efforts of members of Catholic University's School of Library and Information Sciences in collaboration with the Archives of the Franciscan Monastery, this collection is made available to the general public for the first time.
