U.S. Senate History

About this collection

Our collections goal is to serve a broad group of users who are interested in the history of the U.S. Senate.  This collection explores photographs of Members of Congress, Committees, support staff, investigations, events, buildings and architecture and more.  The U.S. Senate is composed of many parts that work separately and together to serve the constituents of the United States.

These photographs were selected by the Senate Photo Historian, Heather Moore, who has a vast knowledge of the infuential events and Senators throughout our nations history.  Additionally, the expansion of the Senate complex and the shift to the Senate office structure we know today can be seen in the photographs that depict the Buildings and Architecture.

Due to the nature of political photographs these photos were chosen to limit bias.  This collection depicts Senators from many backgrounds, different political parties, and different genders.  '

Some photographs in this collections are the original, and can be used as primary source documents for further research.  Whereas, other documents are reproductions of originals to ensure Senate history is not lost due to preservation.
